SAFE PASSAGE: The Work of Robert Morgan
My art became a tool in my struggle against the forces of darkness. I collected the trinkets, toys, and personal possessions of people who were dying in my care, and I used those objects in the creation of my sculptures. – Robert Morgan
Safe Passage features two bodies of work by Robert Morgan (b. 1950). One reclaims cast off items for assemblages dedicated to friends in his queer community, both living and dead. The other uses commemorative plates to document friends who have struggled with addiction, recuperating images of them for objects of devotion. Together, these works form a space of veneration and aspiration, at once celebrating vibrant lives and seeking queer futures.
