Students in the Department of Theatre and Dance get hands-on training and one-on-one mentorship from a professional faculty and renowned guest artists in acting, directing, playwriting, theatrical design, and technology. From our mainstage productions to our student-produced shows, students have plenty of opportunities to participate on stage or backstage. Special programs include a musical theatre certificate, education abroad, as well as a thriving dance program that emphasizes technique, composition, performance, and production.

The Major in Dance in the University of Kentucky’s Department of Theatre and Dance educates its students in the history, theory, creativity, practice, and performance of dance within the context of a broad liberal arts education.
The Dance Minor is open to students from any college and offers instruction in ballet, jazz, modern and musical theatre dance in addition to choreography and improvisation.
The Musical Theatre Certificate offers students the opportunity to study this popular art form in a flexible program. As a Theatre, Music, or Dance Major students may audition for entrance into this highly selective program each spring and can be admitted even as incoming Freshmen.
