Watson wrote the play during her freshman year and later staged it as part of the Department of Theatre and Dance’s Studio Season. The play caught the attention of the director of Cypress Productions, a theatre company in Lexington, who reached out to Watson for permission to host a reading. The reading took place on October 30 at Good Foods Co-Op in Lexington.
“Little Flashes” follows a young woman who, after her death, relives her memories as her life flashes before her eyes. Watson draws inspiration from her own reflections on death.
“I think about death a lot,” Watson acknowledges. “It terrifies me, so I write about it. It’s comforting to put your fears on the page and send them into the world."
The play challenges its audience to confront the inevitability of death.
“Nobody wants to think about death, but this play forces you to look it in the eyes and recognize that everything is fleeting,” Watson explains. “Be prepared to cry a little, but also laugh and think.”
Watson, who will graduate in 2026, has since written two more plays and plans to continue pursuing playwriting as long as possible.
