The Department of Theatre and Dance offers well-rounded programs providing the flexibility to double major or minor in another discipline within a liberal arts education at a Research 1 institution. The department offers a vibrant variety of classes, techniques, performances on and off the stage, and a robust student produced season within an encouraging and nurturing environment. The faculty are accomplished working professionals including actors, dancers, directors, choreographers, designers, technicians, playwrights, and published scholars. Through the thoughtfully curated curriculum and faculty mentorship, students are prepared to have a successful transition from campus to professional life.

The Major in Dance in the University of Kentucky’s Department of Theatre and Dance educates its students in the history, theory, creativity, practice, and performance of dance within the context of a broad liberal arts education.
The Dance Minor is open to students from any college and offers instruction in ballet, jazz, modern and musical theatre dance in addition to choreography and improvisation.

The Musical Theatre Certificate offers students the opportunity to study this popular art form in a flexible program. As a Theatre, Voice, or Dance Major students may audition for entrance into this highly selective program each spring and can be admitted even as incoming Freshmen.
