Heather Brown is a Lighting and Sound Designer, recently appointed as Visiting Lecturer of Lighting and Sound Design in the College of Fine Arts. She earned her MFA from Michigan State University in Production Design.
Recent productions include sound design for Summer Circle Theatre's productions of Significant Other, Smudge, Sense and Sensibility, Love and Other Junk, and Amour. Recent Lighting design credits include Out of Orbit at Williamston Theatre, American Idiot at the Pasant Theatre, Or, at Kickshaw Theatre, and the Orchesis Dance Concert: On the Margins at the Arena Theatre. She has also worked with the IATSE Local 274 at the Wharton Center on Broadway touring productions such as Wicked, MoTown the Musical, and Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder.
She is a member of USITT and OISTAT. She won USITT's Midwest Digital Design Competition for her lighting design of The Tempest, and a Pulsar Award Nomination for Best Lighting Design in 2016.
She is passionate about education. She started Second Stage Productions at Michigan State, a student run organization designed to educate students, and give them real-world theatrical experience. She has taught workshops at META (Michigan Educational Theatre Association) at their annual Michigan Thespian Festival to high school students on topics such as building a technical resume/portfolio, introductory lighting design, and adjudicated Lighting, Sound, and Scenic competitions. She has been the technical coordinator for the Wharton Center Young Playwrights Festival, and Design Area Coordinator, and later the Administrator, for the Summer Circle Theatre Kid's Camp.
