High School Theatre Day
High school theatre students are invited to engage in theatre workshops taught by UK's Theatre faculty, Q&As with both faculty and current students, and a tour of our facilities. Plus, all participants receive one complimentary ticket to our mainstage production, William Shakespeare's "As you Like It" at 10am in the Guignol Theatre and lunch at Champion's Kitchen in the Gatton Student Center.
Registration is required. A letter of participation will be provided.
Theatre Day Schedule
- 9:30-9:45am - Sign-in (Fine Arts Building Lobby, 465 Rose Street)
- 10am-noon - Attend our production of As You Like It (Guignol Theatre)
- 12:15-1:15pm - Complimentary Lunch (Champions Kitchen, Gatton Student Center)
- 1:20-2:20pm - Your choice of theatre workshop
- 2:30-3pm - Tour of Theatre & Dance Spaces
Afternoon workshops for 2024 include:
- Introduction to Costumes - Students will learn about all of the different jobs and staff that are part of creating costumes for a show.
- Scene Design - An introduction to reading a script to create a scenic design!
- Acting - This session will provide a sneak peek into the skills and techniques developed in a college-level theater course. Students will engage in hands-on activities, learn about character development, and improvisation.
- Musical Theatre Dance - Students will learn a fun musical theatre dance and techniques to make the choreography "pop!" Please wear clothes you can move in and bring socks, ballet slippers, or jazz shoes if you have them!
