David Boyd is a PhD Student at the University of Kentucky. David describes himself as an American Ethnomusicologist whose main research is in American Popular Music from 1900 to the Present. He has recently been focusing on the early years of Hip-Hop and Beatboxing as well as the formation of the modern Beatbox Community. He has also researched topics such as Ludomusicology, Soundscapes, Fado, and Whale Songs. Mr. Boyd has previously researched beatbox events and the beatboxing community in papers such as “Mad Twinz, Drop Those Beats: An Analysis of the Collaboration Between Beatboxing and Dance at Dance Battle to The Beatbox 2018” and “Beatboxing in Cyberspace: Liveness During the 2020 Grand Beatbox World League Online Competition." David has taught an Introduction to Music course and a Rock Music course at the University of Kentucky since 2018.
