"A Tribute to Tom Brawner"

The University of Kentucky Wind Symphony and Symphony Band will present their Annual Parent’s Day Concert on Sunday, September 19, 2021, 3:00 p.m. in the Singletary Center for the Performing Arts. This concert is also part of the 2021 UK Family Weekend Celebration and will also be the first ticketed concert by any of the University of Kentucky School of Music performing ensembles in the Singletary Center since March of 2020. The Parent’s Day Concert features two outstanding groups from the UK Band Program and extend a special invitation to all UK parents, family members, and friends of our University of Kentucky students who are able to attend the Sunday afternoon concert of musical selections by some of the world’s most famous composers.
The University of Kentucky Symphony Band program, conducted by Professor George R. Boulden, will include composer Jack Stamp’s setting of “The Star-Spangled Banner” “Esprit de Corps” by Robert Jager, “Lux Aurumque” by Eric Whitacre, “Irish Tune from County Derry” by Percy Grainger, and “Dancing on Water” by Frank Ticheli. The UK Wind Symphony, conducted by Dr. John Cody Birdwell, will conclude the concert with performances of “The Roman Carnival Overture” by Hector Berlioz, “Children’s March” by Percy Grainger, “Southern Harmony” by Donald Grantham, and “Midway March” by John Williams.
The University of Kentucky Bands represent over 400 student members from several different organizations including the Wildcat Marching Band, UK Wind Symphony, Symphony Band, Concert Band, and the UK Basketball and Volleyball Pep Bands.
