Diana Deen took an unusual route to a faculty position in the School of Music. She earned a BA in music from Hanover College, then to two terms at Florida State University studying Music Therapy. She took off for 16 months as a missionary in Switzerland (French speaking) and southeastern France. After returning, she earned the MS in computer science from Brigham Young University, spent six years working in New Jersey (in IT), and in 1988 returned to Lexington, working at UK in an IT position - and taking classes to receive her Ph.D. in Music Education. The last few years in IT was in the Distance Learning Office. That led to a part-time faculty position in the School of Music, after retiring in 2011 putting together the first website and then in 2014 creating MUS 140: Acoustics of Music. This class is popular is popular for two reasons: it is in Canvas and it counts for the Natural Science core credit.

When she’s not teaching Diana likes exploring Kentucky, playing in a recorder group, and participating in Lexington Singers.
