UK New Music Ensemble is dedicated to contemporary classical music composed in the last 50-70 years, especially by living composers. Activities consist of weekly rehearsals held every Thursday (6:40-9:10pm) and the presentation of two programs per semester, consisting of works by leading composers from around the world. It also includes performances of some of the pieces by UK composition students.
UK New Music Ensemble is open to students of any instrument.
After completing this course, the student will be familiar with:
- International contemporary repertoire from the last 50 years to the present
- Different instrumental techniques such as prepared instruments, extended techniques, scordatura, etc.
- How to read new musical notations, how to play with other performers with unusual instrument combinations/ensembles
- Different ways and techniques on how to rehearse this type of repertoire.
- Different combinations of sitting positions on the stage (depending on scores indication)
Finally, this program will be of great benefit to those students who, having been exposed to modern and contemporary repertoire, will undoubtedly broaden their artistic experience, musical culture and therefore their professional possibilities.
