Susannah in Appalachia

This roundtable discussion, co-sponsored by UK Opera Theatre and UK Opera Research Alliance, will question Carlisle Floyd's creation of folkish “local color” and portrayals of intolerance and hypocrisy in an Appalachian church and community in relation to views of Appalachia from the 1950s to the present in various media and forums. 

The participants are: Dr. Revell Carr (Director, John Jacob Niles Center), Dr. Ann Kingsolver (Director, Appalachian Studies); Dr. Ron Pen (Prof. Emeritus, Musicology); Dr. Everett McCorvey (Director, UK Opera Theater), with Dr. Tedrin Blair Lindsay (Vocal Coach, UKOT Music Director) as mediator.
