Music Education Summer Training
We have moved online for Summer 2020!
While nothing can replace the in-person experience of the Modern Band, Orff, and Dalcroze workshops, we hope our new online offerings will help you continue to grow as a musician and teacher.
We unfortunately were not able to curate anything for Modern Band, but have online courses for Orff and Dalcroze. For Orff, there are four mini courses to choose from—each course is two weeks long with a regular meeting pattern. Mix and match or take all four! Topics range from recorder playing to curriculum development. For Dalcroze, we have one asynchronous course that provides you with a strong introductory foundation to the approach. Professional development hours are available for all courses. If you are interested in taking any of these courses for university credit, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
In person sessions are still being planned for 2021. We hope to see you all there healthy and happy!
Orff Schulwerk is “Music for Children”, a way to teach and learn music using poems, rhymes, games, songs, and dances as basic materials. The Schulwerk was created by composers Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman in Europe. The emphasis is on students as improvisers and performers. Daily sessions follow the curriculum approved by the American Orff Schulwerk Association and will focus on ensemble playing, lessons and pedagogy, recorder techniques, dance and movement, and special topics. 2020 Online courses now available!
Dalcroze Eurhythmics is an approach to music education created by Emile Jaques-Dalcroze. The Dalcroze approach has three branches: Eurhythmics trains the body to respond kinesthetically to rhythmic and dynamic concepts. Solfège trains the ear, eye, and voice in pitch, melody, and harmony. Improvisation enables students to respond to concepts according to their own invention, through movement, voice, and at an instrument. The Dalcroze Institute at the University of Kentucky emphasizes music-teaching strategies to develop imagination, coordination, and expression. 2020 Online course now available!
Modern Band music programs teach the popular music styles of the past 60 years, from rock and reggae to Latin and R&B, among other genres, with a heavy focus on improvisation, composition, and getting kids to play on day one. Modern Band complements existing programs such as jazz band, choir, concert band, and orchestra.
DUE TO CAMPUS CLOSURES AND THE RISK OF COVID-19 EXPOSURE WE HAVE MADE THE DIFFICULT DECISION TO CANCEL THE 2020 MODERN BAND WORKSHOP.
Those who have already paid for their registration will receive a full refund, and any checks currently in transit will be voided on arrival. Thank you for your understanding, stay safe, and we hope to see you next year!
