Katie Starbuck Mullen is the Director of Undergraduate Studies and a Lecturer for the Department of Arts Administration. She previously served the department as the Internship Coordinator.

Katie is an experienced visual artist and arts administrator. She began her arts administration career with Lexington’s arts council, LexArts, first in the ArtsPlace gallery and later serving as the Workplace Giving Coordinator. She furthered her development experience as the Stewardship Coordinator for the renowned Speed Art Museum in Louisville, KY. 

Prior to her experience in the nonprofit sector, Katie served as Art Director for local architecture, design, and art firm Pillar 3 Design Group. During Katie’s tenure, Pillar 3 grew exponentially and received national and international media recognition.

Katie holds a BA in Psychology and MA in Arts Administration and graduated from the 2022-2023 UKY CELT Teaching Innovation Institute. She continues to further her education and deepen her understanding of the contemporary student experience through coursework at the University of Kentucky. She has published in the American Journal of Arts Administration and presented at multiple conferences, speaking on topics related to internships, emotional intelligence, and the changing use of technology in the classroom.
