
Jason Dovel appointed president of the International Trumpet Guild
The University of Kentucky College of Fine Arts is pleased to announce that Dr. Jason Dovel, Professor of Trumpet in the UK School of Music, has been elected President of the International Trumpet Guild (ITG), the world’s largest organization dedicated to the trumpet.
Founded in 1975, ITG is a global nonprofit organization with thousands of members across more than 60 countries. It serves performers, educators, students, and enthusiasts through scholarly publications, conferences, educational outreach, and performance opportunities. ITG hosts conferences, publishes a quarterly journal, sponsors numerous competitions, and provides scholarships to students. Professor Dovel’s appointment as President is a prestigious recognition of his artistic excellence, leadership, and international impact in the field. Prior to his appointment as President, he served in various other roles within ITG, including Vice President, Director of Competitions, News Editor, Employment Editor, and Chair of New Works.
In his role as President, he will host the 2027 International Trumpet Guild Conference in Lexington at the University of Kentucky, May 18–22, 2027. It is projected that more than one thousand ITG members will visit Lexington for this major international conference. The Conference will also include eight division of competitions for students, which will attract top-tier trumpet students from all around the world.
A faculty member at UK since 2013, Jason Dovel is currently Professor of Trumpet. He is also Director of the UK’s bilateral partnership with Ionian University in Corfu, Greece, and has taken dozens of UK students to Greece through UK Education Abroad trips in 2015, 2023, 2024, and 2025. At UK, he recently completed a term as Chair of the Division of Winds, Percussion, and Jazz. He was an inaugural fellow for both the UK Emerging Leaders Academy (2024–2025) and the UKinSPIRE International program (2023–2024).
Dovel begins his role as President on October 1, 2025. He will serve as ITG President from 2025–2027 and then will continue in the formal advisory role of Past President from 2027–2029.
