A STAGED READING
February 21 and 22, 2025 | Briggs Theatre
Post-show discussion February 22

In this staged reading of Arthur Miller's adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's powerful masterwork, a small-town doctor, who considers himself a proud and upstanding member of his close-knit community, discovers a looming catastrophe that endangers the lives of everyone in town. As he raises the alarm, he is shaken to his core when those in power, including his own brother, not only try to silence him but also attempt to destroy him.

A new and timely collaboration between the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources Extension and the Department of Theatre and Dance will be featured in conjunction with An Enemy of the People. This staged reading of Arthur Miller's adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's powerful masterwork focuses on the importance of science communication, ethics, and environmental (water) quality in relation to societal norms and community politics. UK water quality specialists from the Department of Forestry & Natural Resource Extension will co-host a post-performance panel discussion on Sat, February 22nd with the director and cast, and will be providing Kentucky specific water quality information before each show at the theater.

Extension Educator, Katherine Bullock, also hosted an interactive environmental education workshop for the show's cast on February 10th. This workshop focused on local water quality, the relationship between climate change and extreme weather in Kentucky, and how the arts play an important role in environmental sustainability.
