2026 High School Theatre Day

We are excited to welcome high school students to the University of Kentucky for a day of theatre, learning, and exploration! This event offers students the opportunity to deepen their theatre training while experiencing the UK Department of Theatre & Dance.

Participants will:

• Attend a performance of Almost, Maine followed by a Q&A with the student cast and production team.
• Participate in a master class of their choice led by UK Theatre & Dance faculty.
• Receive a complimentary lunch at Champions Kitchen in the Gatton Student Center.

Capacity: 120 students

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE

• 9:30 -10am - Sign-in (Fine Arts Building Lobby, 465 Rose Street)
• 10:00 -12:00pm - Performance & Talkback: Watch excerpts from Almost, Maine, followed by a Q&A with the cast and production team. (Guignol Theatre)
• 12:00pm -12:45pm - Complimentary Lunch (Champions Kitchen, Gatton Student Center)
• 1:00-2:00pm - Faculty Master Classes: Students will select one theatre workshop from a variety of sessions led by UK Theatre & Dance faculty.

One of the best parts of High School Theatre Day is getting to experience what it's like to take a college theatre class with University of Kentucky faculty! Whether you're interested in performing, creating costumes, or working behind the scenes, you'll choose one one-hour master class designed to introduce you to new skills and inspire your creativity.

Sewing for the Stage
Learn basic costume construction techniques and discover how costumes come to life on stage. No sewing experience is required!

Acting 101
Build confidence and strengthen your performance skills through engaging acting exercises focused on character, storytelling, and stage presence.

Acting Improvisation
Think on your feet! Explore the fundamentals of improv through fun, fast-paced games and activities that encourage creativity, collaboration, and spontaneity.

Technical Theatre & Design
Step behind the curtain to explore the world of  production design. Discover how designers and technicians transform ideas into unforgettable theatrical experiences.

Musical Theatre Dance
Learn choreography inspired by Broadway musicals while developing performance quality, musicality, and movement skills. This energetic class is open to all experience levels and is a great way to experience the excitement of musical theatre.
