Music Industry Skills: Business, Creativity, and Professional Practice

Music is creative work, but the music industry also depends on strong management, communication, financial, legal, and entrepreneurial skills. Students in the BA in Music Industry study the structures and systems that shape contemporary music, including recording, publishing, live performance, artist management, merchandising, licensing, digital distribution, and streaming. Through this curriculum, students learn how the industry works and how to make informed decisions within it. The curriculum also includes coursework in emotional intelligence skill development, such as collaboration, teamwork, and decision-making, to help students develop the interpersonal and professional skills needed to work across a complex and changing world.

No Audition Required

The BA in Music Industry is designed for students who are passionate about music but may not want to pursue a performance-based degree. Students do not need to audition for the major, and prior performance experience is not required. This makes the program accessible to students interested in the business, administrative, production, and entrepreneurial sides of music. Students with a performance background may also choose to complement the degree with music coursework or, where appropriate, a music minor that requires an audition for admission.
