Cameron Baxter-Lewis, MPA
Cameron Baxter Lewis, a Chapel Hill, North Carolina resident, developed his passion for service close to home. After graduating from Appalachian State University, he embarked on a transformative journey with AmeriCorps NCCC, deploying to the Gulf Coast for Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts. This experience ignited his commitment to volunteerism, leading him to dedicate a year to AmeriCorps VISTA with the YWCA of Missoula, MT, and subsequently joining the Peace Corps in Suriname, South America, where he met his wife and now has two small children.
In addition to receiving a Masters Degree in Public Administration and Emergency Management, Cameron has nearly two decades of experience in nonprofit, volunteer, and disaster management. Currently serving as the Director of Grants & Programs at the Craft Emergency Relief Fund (CERF+), Cameron is dedicated to fostering inclusivity and enriching artistic practices through preparedness and recovery initiatives.
Prior professional roles include being a Disaster Program Specialist in Save the Children's Domestic Emergency Unit, earning recognition with the 2017 FEMA Youth Preparedness Award. As a Program Manager at Points of Light, he supervised over 100 AmeriCorps members, facilitated disaster volunteer management training, and forged partnerships resulting in pro bono projects addressing critical needs during disasters.
In addition to his professional work, Cameron has also chaired the AmeriCorps Triangle Alums and NVOAD Volunteer Management Committee, and advised organizations such as the International Association of Fire Chiefs and FEMA’s Youth Preparedness Council.
Cameron currently serves as the Director of Grants, Programs, and Training at the Craft Emergency Relief Fund (CERF+), overseeing the planning, development, and implementation of strategies, initiatives, and educational programming for CERF+'s emergency response and readiness grants and programs.
