Calling all composers, librettists, and musical storytellers!

Do you have an operatic work in progress that you’re eager to hear brought to life by real voices? Are you looking for the collaborative spark that comes from hearing singers inhabit your music and text? Or perhaps you’re ready to take the next step toward a world premiere in a dynamic, supportive environment filled with adventurous young artists.

At UK Opera Theatre, creating and championing new work is at the heart of what we do. Our program is home to an extraordinary community of talented student singers who are excited to originate new roles and help shape the future of opera. Whether your project would benefit from a concert sing-through with piano, a developmental workshop, or a fully staged premiere, we welcome the opportunity to collaborate and help move your work forward.

UK Opera Theatre has proudly presented several world premieres, most recently A Nation of Others in March 2026. Over the course of eighteen months, we partnered with composer Paul Moravec and librettist Mark Campbell to guide the piece from its origins as an oratorio to a fully realized operatic world premiere, including two developmental workshops along the way. This kind of sustained collaboration exemplifies our commitment to the creative process.

Under the leadership of Dr. Everett McCorvey, UK Opera Theatre ensures that our students graduate with both a deep understanding of the operatic canon and meaningful experience developing the next generation of opera. Workshops and creative collaborations are essential to that mission.

Everett McCorvey is a great artist and educator. He understands the importance of producing new work, not only to keep the repertoire alive, but also to help students understand that music is a living thing that can address the issues they face in the world today.

In my happy collaboration with the UK Opera Theatre students so far, I have already learned a lot. The experience has been immensely gratifying. We are collaborating in the creation of something entirely new, and the students’ fresh, enthusiastic performances and advice are invaluable.
