From the UK Art Museum:
Our exhibition Intentions – Actions – Outcomes will be on view from June 27 – November 18, 2023. It includes many examples of how ideas become actualized—from notes, scores, and performance plans. We are including Learning To Love You More (2002-09), a web-based project conceived by artists Harrell Fletcher and Miranda July, featuring works made by the general public in response to seventy different assignments.
More than 8,000 participants accepted the challenge, following the simple but specific instructions and sending in the required report (photograph, text, video, etc.) to be posted online. Yuri Ono designed and managed the website that documented the various works made by artists and non-artists of all ages—from Tokyo to Tel Aviv to Lexington, Kentucky.
Exhibitions featuring completed assignments have been presented at the Aurora Picture Show in Houston, Rhodes College in Memphis, the Seattle Art Museum, the Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts in San Francisco, and The Whitney Museum of American Art in New York.
In 2010, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art acquired Learning to Love You More, and they (along with Fletcher and July) have generously agreed to allow us to solicit responses to two of the assignments for our exhibition. Submissions will be printed and displayed in the Museum.
