Harry Gamboa Jr. discusses his collaborative approach to photography and performance over the last thirty-five years, including his work as co-founder and director of multiple performance groups, from Asco to Troupe Non Grata and Virtual Vérité. He is a subject of the documentary ASCO: Without Permission, which was recently included in the South by Southwest and Chicago International film festivals. 

 

Gamboa is a longtime Photo/Media Program faculty member at California Institute of the Arts, where he has influenced generations of artists. He has recently exhibited at the Autry Museum of the American West, J. Paul Getty Museum, and Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, Washington, DC; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; and the Ludwig Museum, Cologne. He has been awarded the Stieglitz Award by the Los Angeles Center for Photography, Rockefeller Humanities Fellowship, and National Endowment for the Arts Inter-Arts Grant, among many other prizes.
