SCFA Expansive Sounds Series #12 - Tomeka Reid Quartet

Cellist and composer Tomeka Reid brings her acclaimed quartet to the stage, blending jazz, classical traditions, and music rooted in the African diaspora into a sound that is both deeply expressive and constantly evolving. A MacArthur Fellow and Herb Alpert Award recipient, Reid is one of the most distinctive voices to emerge from Chicago’s bustling jazz and improvised music community, known for her inventive compositions, dynamic cello playing, and adventurous collaborations. 

The Tomeka Reid Quartet—featuring Reid alongside bassist Jason Roebke, guitarist Mary Halvorson, and drummer Tomas Fujiwara—first came together for Reid’s 2015 debut as a bandleader. Their music has continued to evolve across a series of acclaimed recordings, including Old New, 3+3, and the 2026 release dance! skip! hop!. Expect an evening of energetic interplay, lyrical improvisation, and music that continually finds new directions.
