Community Outreach & Performance
Public enrichment and education is a vital part of UK Opera Theatre's mission. Several opportunities are available to schools, businesses, organizations, and private individuals to bring opera to their gatherings and classrooms; as well as summer and after school programs to give your little star a head start on their creative instruction.
Schmidt Opera Outreach Program (SOOP)
Taking opera to K - 6 students and communities across Kentucky that may not otherwise have opportunities to experience it. The program's goal is to increase the impact of the arts within the Commonwealth, providing improvements to the quality of life across the state.
Haitian Harmony Project
The University of Kentucky opera program has partnered with Alltech to help launch the Haitian Harmony Project in the town of Ouanaminthe, Haiti. The hope is to put together a choir of about 35 elementary students that will perform during the opening ceremonies of the Alltech-FEI World Equestrian Games and, longer term, tour the world to raise awareness about the poor nation's plight.
At the first UK football game in Commonwealth Stadium each season this 75+ person vocal ensemble celebrates the start of the sports season with a powerful performance of the National Anthem on the field.
