Genesis Lorjuste

INTERESTS: Musical theatre, Kentucky Karana Bollywood Fusión dance team, choreography

Genesis was very active at North Cobb High School where she was captain of the dance team, track athlete, and in advanced women’s chorus. She started dancing at a studio when she was five years old and continued to do so until she was 16 years old. Genesis has always also had an interest in musical theatre - she participated in several musicals starting in sixth grade. She made her college dance debut in the University of Kentucky Opera Theatre’s production of Showboat as a featured dancer. Since then, she has been in the past two dance concerts “Louder Than Words” and “Amplified.” Her sophomore year, she joined the Kentucky Karana Dance Team and the following year she accepted a captain and choreographer position with the team. When she’s not in the studio she enjoys eating at fancy restaurants, shopping and getting her nails done. She also enjoys emceeing for campus ministry CRU. Following graduation she hopes to just keep dancing and choreographing wherever she ends up.

REASON FOR BECOMING AN AMBASSADOR

When coming into UK I had no intention of even becoming a dance minor. Now I’m going into my senior year as a major and I couldn’t be more happy with my decision. I want to be an advocate for the college because of how it changed me outlook on pursuing a career in the arts. Many people think that you have to be a starving artist at some point when pursuing a career in the arts but there are so many ways to pursue your dream while maintaining financial stability.
