Teena Marie Custer is an urban dance theater artist based in Pittsburgh, PA and London, Ontario.  As an underground street/club dancer, she has battled and performed with her crews Get Down Gang and Venus Fly for the past 16 years.  Her urban dance theater work has been presented at Sadler’s Wells Theater in London, The American Dance Festival, Kelly-Strayhorn Theater, Ford Amphitheater in LA, and the American College Dance Festival Gala Concert.  She has also created urban dance theater works for over 30 university dance departments around the U.S., and her tv and film credits include BET, MTV’sMADE, the feature film “Leading Ladies,” directed by Erika Randall and “Fathers and Daughters” starring Russell Crowe.
 
Teena Marie earned a BA in Dance from Slippery Rock University where she was on faculty for 14 years teaching street dance, contemporary dance, and dance composition. She holds an MFA in Dance Performance from The Ohio State University, and was also on faculty at the prestigious American Dance Festival at Duke University where she premiered the first hip hop repertory piece in the history of the festival. After touring her solo show "My Good Side" from 2015-2018, she is now currently on tour with Bessie award winning Ephrat Asherie Dance in New York, as well as Bill "Crutchmaster" Shannon's "Touch Update."
