AUDITION - A Midsummer Night's Dream
Auditions for A Midsummer Night’s Dream will take place on Tuesday, January 21 at 5:00 pm and Wednesday, January 22 at 5:00 pm in the Briggs Theatre, Room 127 Fine Arts Building. You can sign up to audition for either date. Please note there will be a Dance Call on Wednesday, January 22 at 6:00 pm in the Dance Studio, Room 117, Fine Arts Building. The Dance Call is specific to those who are auditioning for the Fairies, including Puck, Oberon, and Titana. A sign-up sheet will be posted on the call board outside the Theatre & Dance Office. Call backs will be held on Thursday, January 23 at 5:00 pm in the Briggs Theatre, Room 127 Fine Arts.
What to prepare: Choose a role you relate to and explore it, then find a monologue and learn it. It’s a comedy, so finding something light is a good idea (but some characters are darker so if you are interested in Oberon or Titania both have good-sized monologues). The Director is looking for confidence in the language, clarity of intent, and solid character choices. Please prepare a monologue around 14 to 16 lines like this:
Call you me fair? that fair again unsay.
Demetrius loves your fair: O happy fair!
Your eyes are lode-stars; and your tongue's sweet air
More tuneable than lark to shepherd's ear,
When wheat is green, when hawthorn buds appear.
Sickness is catching: O, were favour so,
Yours would I catch, fair Hermia, ere I go;
My ear should catch your voice, my eye your eye,
My tongue should catch your tongue's sweet melody.
Were the world mine, Demetrius being bated,
The rest I'd give to be to you translated.
O, teach me how you look, and with what art
You sway the motion of Demetrius' heart.
