Lecturer in Graphic Design
The School of Art and Visual Studies at the University of Kentucky invites applicants for a Lecturer in Graphic Design to begin August 2021. Initial appointment is one year, with possibility of renewal. The successful candidate will teach three courses per semester (3/3 teaching load).
To complement and expand our growing graphic design area within our interdisciplinary program, we seek an engaged and collaborative colleague demonstrating the ability to teach undergraduate studio courses in layout and typography, with a focus on print and screen applications. Capacity to teach knowledge of contemporary design practices—including use of industry-standard software, methodologies, and production methods— is required. A successful candidate balances expertise of typography and composition alongside knowledge of cultural context of visual communication. Additional knowledge or experience in areas of way finding or design thinking would be beneficial. This position serves the Digital Media Design major, a multidisciplinary major blending practices of digital design and studio art. The faculty in the School of Art and Visual Studies recognize and embrace a broad approach to creative approaches, engaging and challenging the conceptual, technical, and pedagogical aspects of Graphic Design in relation to other studio practices.
