Assistant Professor of Drawing and Digital Illustration

The School of Art and Visual Studies (SA/VS) at the University of Kentucky seeks applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor in Drawing and Digital Illustration to begin August 2019. The successful candidate will teach two courses per semester in drawing and illustration (2/2 teaching load) and advise both undergraduate and graduate students working in a variety of contemporary studio art and design practices. The applicant will also be expected to conduct creative research and provide appropriate service to the school, college, university and public.  A successful candidate for this position will complement and expand existing Art Studio faculty skill-sets by contributing to courses in all levels of drawing and illustration, both digital and traditional. A balanced understanding of the cultural context of visual production that includes familiarity with contemporary art is vital for this position. This position will involve collaborative curricular development in Foundations, Drawing, and Digital Illustration in the new Digital Media and Design degree.  The ideal candidate’s practice will explore the expanding field of contemporary mark-making and/or graphic imagery. The Art Studio Faculty recognize and embrace a broad approach to creative practices, engaging and challenging the conceptual, technical, and pedagogical aspects of art practice and outcomes.  An ideal candidate would have strengths in digital illustration, animation and/ or visualization. Knowledge of Professional Practices and at least two years of teaching experience at the college level are highly desirable. An MFA or equivalent terminal degree is required.
