SA/VS is committed to training not only scholars and artists, but teachers. Through our assistantship program, graduate students have extensive opportunities to shadow faculty and to receive targeted mentoring before they themselves begin to teach. The School awards a number of graduate teaching assistantships and research fellowships to outstanding students with proven records of artistic and/or academic achievement.
The intimate size of the Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) degree in Art Studio allows MFA candidates generous access to faculty and facilities in order to curate their graduate experience around the media and skills they need to be successful artists. In this 3-year program, MFA candidates receive individualized attention from faculty members on their thesis committee and in the classroom, creating a rigorous, yet nurturing environment focused on developing each individual as a professional artist.
