Part of the SA/VS Visiting Artist Series
Define // Sean Lyman
This work investigates spaces and objects most often overlooked but serve specific roles in our daily routines. I am fascinated by the clues they can offer to the more complete context of how a space is used by an individual.
Resistance // Angela Carbone and David Bogus
Carbone: Through the use of multiple ceramic objects, a layered symbolic dialogue confronts the viewer with a sense of diametric opposition. As the viewer approaches the work for closer examination, the attractive decorative quality of each individual object contrasts the discernment of the unabridged image. The viewer’s analysis of cultural, social and economic issues, encourages contemporary interpretations of liberty and justice. If the work can only provoke a spirited and meaningful dialogue, it accomplishes more than mainstream media has achieved in our current political climate.
Bogus: Among other works, Bogus will be exhibiting his Optimist Luggage series. "I first started to make suitcases because as a young artist I had to pack up and move every year. Like my identity, my work is a contradiction. One day it’s about concealing deep psychological baggage, the next, an optimistic view of my inflated ego in a Warholian pop reference."
