School of Music Professors Release a New Album
CFA School of Music Director of Undergraduate Studies and Associate Professor of trombone, Bradley Kerns, along with piano professor Dr. Jacob Coleman recently released an album of Brazilian music. Splotch Ecology, a collection of original compositions and arrangements from Brazilian composers for trombone and piano is available on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, or you can download it from Dr. Kerns' CD Baby Profile.
"A Playwright’s Journey"
Herman Daniel Farrell III, 2018-19 University Research Professor recipient, Associate Professor in UK CFA's Department of Theatre & Dance, award-winning playwright/screenwriter, and noted Eugene O'Neill scholar recently signed a contract with McFarland & Company for the publication of a new book "A Playwright’s Journey" with a proposed publication date in 2020.
Based on the life and work of Eugene O'Neill, the book will tell not only O'Neil's stories from Farrell's unique perspective as a playwright, but will also include stories of contemporary playwright's such as Pulitzer Prize winners Robert Schenkkan, Doug Wright, and David Lindsay-Abaire as well as Windham Campell Prize winner Kia Corthron.

By day UK CFA's David Cropper is the lead Disbursement Coordinator for the School of Music. By night he writes fantastic tales of a street waif turned government agent who must use her theatrical talent to convince a megalomaniac that she is a loyal follower. His newly published Martha Kite Among the Congregation in Exile, with a book cover by the School of Art and Visual Studies Administrative Assistant, Stacey Earley, is now available at Barnes & Noble.
School of Music Baroque Trumpet Ensemble Collaborates on New Album
UK School of Music’s Baroque Trumpet Ensemble, directed by Jason Dovel recorded a CD with Australian Baroque Trumpet virtuoso, John Foster. Music for Natural Trumpets was produced by New Branch Records with Baroque trumpets: Drew Burke, Bailey Goff, Phillip Chase, Cadem Holmes, Jessica Lambert, Kyle Mitchell, Rhiannon Montgomery, Coleman Scott, Abby Temple, and Jared Wallis; Sackbut: Denver Pascua; Timpani/Tabor: David Davenport.

UK Professor Named to Popular Music Education Board
SOM assistant professor Martina Vasil was recently appointed to the board of the Association for Popular Music Education. APME was created to advocate for popular music education and its advancement as a discipline. It provides educational opportunities for teachers and students, honors the rich history of popular music, and develops innovative ways to create, perform, and teach it. APME also serves to bring together all involved in the pursuit of teaching and making popular music at all levels including higher education, public school modern band and contemporary music programs, music companies, manufacturers, and popular music organizations.
