INTERESTS: Instrumental Music Education and Cello
After beginning the cello in elementary school, Anna knew she wanted to become a public-school orchestra teacher because of the level of support and impact from her music teachers growing up. In high school, Anna volunteered at the “Friends in Music” program, an after-school music mentoring program that reaches middle school orchestra students in two Title I schools in Fayette County, KY. From this experience, she developed a passion for working with children and watching them grow as musicians and people throughout the program. Anna wants to continue this level of community involvement throughout the rest of her life and career. Anna currently works as a private cello teacher, a teacher at UK's String Project, and soccer referee. She currently performs in University of Kentucky Symphony Orchestra and University of Kentucky Women's Choir. She has also started a piano trio, Soli Deo Gloria, with her colleagues Ethan Neal and Emma Browning. In her free time, Anna enjoys reading, playing chamber music with friends, and bullet journaling. In the future, Anna wants to become a teacher in a successful classroom program as well as start and operate her own nonprofit dedicated to making music education accessible. Anna is driven by the idea that every child is deserving of a quality music education, regardless of financial status. It is a major career goal of hers to be able to impact every community she lives in with the access to quality music education for whoever desires it.
REASON FOR BECOMING AN AMBASSADOR
I wanted to become a CFA Student Ambassador because of the experience I had with the ambassadors when I was deciding where to go in college. If I had not shadowed an ambassador for a day and had the opportunity to experience what being a student at UK was like, I would never have fully understood the community and opportunities that UK offers. I want to be able to help students along through their college decision process and help them really know what it is like to be a student at UK.
