Now in it’s third season, UKOT’s spring Chamber Opera series has come to be known for hip, edgy and highly entertaining performances of one act operas in English, stage directed by Janet Scott with musical direction by Tedrin Blair Lindsay. This year’s offering, Games Night!, is a conflation of two one-act operas and four Art Songs: Samuel Barber’s A Hand of Bridge with text by Gian Carlo Menotti; Seymour Barab’s A Game of Chance with text by Evelyn Manacher (who, incidentally, co-wrote the screenplay for The Wizard of Oz;) and John Jacob Niles’ The Gambling Songs. Our presentation of Games Night! will feature the marvelous UK vocal undergrads, many of whom sang so beautifully at the OperaLex Christmas dinners the last two years at the Woodlands. The Chamber Operas bring audiences to the Schmidt Vocal Arts Center second floor blackbox studio and give us all a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the versatility of UKOT’s home.
Performances will take place on April 21 and 22 at 2 p.m. The performances are free with a suggested donation of $10. Mark your calendars for Games Night! - you can bet that you won’t want to miss it!
