Credits & Certifications

Credit can be earned towards special graduate certifications and concentrations through both the Orff Schulwerk and Dalcroze Eurhythmics workshops.

Orff Schulwerk

The University of Kentucky is one of only a few institutions in the United States with Orff Schulwerk Concentration at the graduate level. Orff Schulwerk is the music approach created by composers Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman. It is a way to teach and learn music using poems, rhymes, games, songs, and dances as basic materials. The emphasis is on students as improvisers and performers. UK offers Schulwerk Teacher Training courses in the summers, taught by the most prestigious summer faculty from different parts of the country. The content follows strict guidelines of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association. Training is given at Levels 1, 2, 3 and advanced masters courses in different topics such as curriculum design and special learners.
