Experience In Amateur Hour - A Senior Virtual Exhibition

We would like to announce the launch of the University of Kentucky School of Art and Visual Studies Digital Senior Exhibition “Experience in Amateur Hour.” This exhibition is a presentation of capstone research which began classrooms and studios and finished online via zoom meetings—with work completed in students' kitchens, bedrooms, and living rooms across the nation.

Building on the success of our UK Summer Trumpet Institute, we will be offering for the second year in a row the UK Junior Trumpet Institute tailored for Middle School trumpet players. Classes will be geared toward younger players with an emphasis on sound production, breathing, reading, ensemble playing, and other fundamental skills.

Returning for the fourth year, the UK Summer Trumpet Institute offers the chance to work with highly acclaimed guest artists from around the United States, daily masterclasses, performance opportunities, and concerts for the High School and College level trumpet student.

Tuition for the four-day online institute is $50.

Curating the Local in the Global: Contemporary Art from Senegal

Dr. Underwood will be speaking on The View From Here: Contemporary Perspectives from Senegal, the travelling exhibition which he organized for the OFF Program of the Dak’Art Biennale of Contemporary Art, and the Kent State School of Art Collection and Galleries. In addition to editing and writing the catalog for this exhibition in 2018, he has published articles in African Arts and World Art, and written a chapter for a forthcoming volume on Relocating Modernism: Global Metropolises, Modern Art and Exile.

Lost Souls (text: Maciej Świerkocki, illustrations: Mariusz Sołtysik) is a graphic novel that deals with the history of the Holocaust in Poland. It represents an original take on the complex story of this dark chapter in human history. The graphic novel was presented at a number of prestigious venues in Poland such as The Marek Edelman Dialogue Center in Łódź and Conrad Festival in Krakow.

Composer Jon Jang became the first American born Chinese to compose a symphonic work that honors Chinese American history. For three decades, composer and pianist Jon Jang gives a musical voice to a history that has been silent. As a pianist, Jon Jang has co-composed, co-led and recorded with Max Roach, James Newton and David Murray. As a scholar, Jang has taught at Stanford University, University of California at Berkeley and UC Irvine and has presented his work at numerous universities.

Emily Redden Senior Voice Recital

Emily Redden is very excited to present her senior voice recital with some of her favorite composers including Mozart, Stephen Flaherty, and Lucy Simon. Come enjoy an evening of celebration and accomplishment as she performs "Fruhlingsstimmen" (a life-long dream) and many other gorgeous sets of classical music. Please enjoy a small reception afterwards.

A second performance will also take place in Louisville, KY at St. Andrews Episcopal Church on Sunday January 13th, 2019 3:00pm.
