Body Language includes new works by Mike Goodlett and Hunter Stamps, who use a variety of media to create organic sculptures with a visceral relationship to the body. Stamps, an associate professor of ceramics at UK, manipulates clay into an elastic state that folds like flesh. Goodlett, who draws on his experiences growing up in the region, uses sewn fabric, plaster, and cement to make sensuous forms. Without being literal, the artists evoke body parts, the fluidity of desire, along with both the joy and anxiety of being embodied.
