This is America*
September 12 – December 13, 2020

Coinciding with the 2020 presidential election, this exhibition offers a meditation on the gap between the promise of America and its often less than successful deliverables. What does our democracy look like today? What will happen next? How can art help us understand history, citizenry, faith, race, sexuality, dignity, power, and struggle?

Selections from the Museum’s permanent collection, as well as art gathered from various studios, galleries, and private collections, come together to create a dense environment that challenges the viewer to sort out their knowledge of, and feelings about, a range of relevant subjects. Various UK faculty will contribute interpretive wall texts, reading lists, soundtracks, and other materials to expand even further this multi-voiced exhibition.

Artists include Louis Zoellar Bickett, Amber Boardman, Donald Lipski, Gordon Parks, Wendy Rowland, Alison Saar, Gilbert Stuart, William Walmsley, and Andy Warhol, to name a few.
