Elizabeth Packard Arnold

Elizabeth Packard Arnold, soprano, is a versatile performer whose interests range from Baroque music to the lieder of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Her recent performances include the June 2011 inaugural concert of Kentucky Baroque performing masterpieces of Italian Baroque for the fringe concert series of the Boston Early Music Festival. (Arnold is a founding member of Kentucky Baroque with colleagues Dieter Hennings, University of Kentucky, and David Walker, Bellarmine University). Also in October 2011, she performed a recital of lieder by Franz Liszt in Weimar Germany as part of the International Franz Liszt Congress’s 200th anniversary celebration of the composer’s birth.
Dr. Arnold has performed with several regional orchestras including the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra, Gwinnett Philharmonic, Raleigh Oratorio Society, Greensboro Choral Society, Hickory Choral Society, and the Atlanta Baroque Orchestra. She also performed as a soprano soloist for Handel’s L'Allegro, il Penseroso, ed it Moderato for the American Handel Festival. In addition to oratorio, she has been involved in many performances with the Atlanta based group, New Trinity Baroque Ensemble (NTB). Performances with NTB include Bach cantatas, solo cantatas of Handel, Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610in addition to performances of Carissimi’s Jonas and Jepthe, Charpentier’s Messe de Nuit, Monteverdi’s Selve Morale e Spirituale, and Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas that are recorded on Edition Lilac.
As the voice technician for the UK Women’s Choir Dr. Arnold also collaborates with Dr. Lori Hetzel in the area of “Voice Building for Choirs,” which has resulted in joint presentations at the regional and national conventions of the American Choral Directors Association. Professor Arnold recently presented on this topic at the regional American Guild of Organists and as a faculty member at the Presbyterian Association’s of Musicians national conference in North Carolina in June 2011.
Professor Arnold received a DMA in vocal performance from the Cincinnati–College Conservatory of Music and researched the Lieder of Sophia Westenholz (1759-1838) for her DMA thesis. She has also studied German oratorio at the Benjamin Britten–Peter Pears School in Aldeburgh, England with Kurt Equiluz, Ruth Drucker, and Alastair Ross. She has participated in Stephen Stubb’s summer Baroque opera program, Accademia d’Amore, in Seattle, Washington and has coached with other Baroque specialists such as Julianne Baird, Evelynn Tubb, and the American Bach Soloists.
In August 2009 she assumed the position of Assistant Professor in Voice at the University of Kentucky where she teaches applied lessons and oversees the undergraduate voice majors. Prior to coming to the University of Kentucky she served as an Artist-Affiliate in voice at Emory University and as an Assistant Professor at Transylvania University, where she directed the Transylvania Singers (Women’s Choir) and taught applied voice, opera workshop, vocal diction, and song literature.
